Bathroom Consents

At CoEx we help our clients by providing a complete application service for your bathroom building consent.
A building consent covers work which is complex and involves a higher level of risk so both you and the council need to know it has been done correctly and by the appropriate qualified trades people.

The consent application requires detailed drawings and specifications to be submitted. These drawings will be completed by our designer who is a Licensed Building Practitioner. Our designer will provide the council with a Certificate of Design as part of their sign off. We will also make sure the work complies with the appropriate New Zealand Building Codes and gather all necessary paperwork required from your tradespeople to satisfy the council’s requirements.

Some examples of work that may need a building consent are:

  • a new tiled shower

  • a full wet room bathroom

  • moving walls and fixtures from their original positions

  • installing a new bathroom or ensuite where there was not previously a bathroom.

Our team at CoEx will look after the whole process - meaning no stress for you.

Bathroom Exemptions

At CoEx we are here to help you with the building consent exemption process from start to finish.

Not all bathroom renovations require a building consent. If you are replacing fixtures like for like you may not need a consent or exemption at all. If you are adding a vanity, basic shower or toilet to your bathroom, chances are that you will
need to apply for an exemption from building consent.

Works which are deemed to be lower in risk will be covered under an exemption. It is important to apply for an exemption to assure the council that your renovation has
been done to a high standard by qualified people. This work will then be recorded on your property file. This can be important if you have any issues with the workmanship or if you are looking to sell your house. Prospective buyers will want to see any changes made to your house have been done to a high standard.

choosing bathroom fittings as well as tile, flooring and colour choices and anything else to help make the process easier.
